Biking in Ohiopyle
If you like biking, Southwestern PA and the Ohiopyle area are your dream come true! The Great Allegheny Passage has 27 miles of trail in Ohiopyle State Park and connects to Pittsburgh, Pa and Cumberland, Maryland. This trail is suitable for all ages and is ADA accessible. Bike rentals are available at most of the Rafting Outfitters in Ohiopyle. This trail is also excellent for hiking, jogging and cross-country skiing. For bikers who wish to camp the access to Kentuck Campground is just off the trail near Ohiopyle.
Pennsylvania's Allegheny Highlands Trail follows the former right-of-way of the Western Maryland Railroad through the Somerset County area. This trail is part of the Great Allegheny Passage, a 150-mile multi-use path that connects Pittsburgh with the Cumberland Bike Trail known as the C&O Canal towpath in Cumberland, MD. You can now ride all the way from Pittsburgh to Washington DC. More information on the Great Allegheny Passage can be found at www.atatrail.org
The Three Rivers Heritage Trail connects Pittsburgh to Ohiopyle. The system evolved from five separate trails in nine different sections. This 24-mile nonlinear trail has segments on both banks of Pittsburgh’s three rivers with access to neighborhoods, business districts, and local attractions. There are still areas of the trail that need to be completed. All of these trails are part of the Potomac Heritage National Scenic Trail. Bikers and Hikers can essentially go from Pittsburgh to DC and there are trail towns all along the way to stop and rest, eat and play.
There are also 25.2 miles of mountain bike trails in Ohiopyle. The trails that are open to mountain biking include the Sugarloaf Trail System, Pressley Ridge Trail, McCune Trail, Baughman Trail, Jonathan Run Trail and Sugar Run Trail.
